September 17, 2014
We are delighted to welcome Assistant Professor Mark Amengual to our department. Mark received a Ph.D in Hispanic Linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin in 2013. His research and teaching interests focus primarily on experimental phonetics and laboratory phonology, bilingualism, and sociolinguistics. Other research interests include language contact, second language acquisition, and Romance linguistics. He has been the principal investigator or collaborator in several research projects on Spanish-Catalan bilinguals, Spanish-Galician bilinguals, Spanish heritage speakers in the U.S., English heritage speakers in Spain, and Spanish speakers in rural areas of the Dominican Republic. In Fall 2014, he will offer a course on Varieties of Spanish (SPAN 151), a much needed addition to our curriculum.
