International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), Division of Global Engagement and Lecturer Javier Fernández Agüera in the Department of Languages and Applied Linguistics, hosted an intercultural mixer with 24 visiting Mexican students and Spanish-language learners on campus. The students played traditional Hispanic board games like Lotería, Parchís, and Dominó while speaking in Spanish. We all had such a blast!
The event was a unique chance for intercultural connection and communication. The visiting scholars from Mexico are representing COMEXUS, which stands for Mexico-United States Commision for Education and Cultural Exchange. Each student applied and received a grant to complete this custom, short-term program and exchange related to Entrepreneurship and Sustainability. We are so happy that they got the chance to meet with UCSC undergraduates who are learning Spanish and to get to know each other during this fun and meaningful event.
